How common is usage of Sci-Hub among philosophers? It seems less well-known in the humanities, but it does provide access to philosophy articles. Feel free to share your experiences using it.

There’s also The Philosophical Underclass, a Facebook “interlibrary loan” group that allows “those of us who have less-than-adequate library access to journals and e-holdings to request them of the more privileged.” Note, though, that its organizers ask potential users to first attempt to find their article through other means, including Sci-Hub.

Elbakyan studied computer science and in 2011 created Sci-Hub, which now hosts over 85 million papers. She is currently enrolled in a philosophy graduate program at the Russian Academy of Sciences, according to a recent article in The Chronicle of Higher Education which focuses largely on the legal battles Elbakyan is engaged in with publishers. You can learn a little about her philosophical interests in this interview.
There’s a brief description of how Sci-Hub works here.
You may know that Sci-Hub is a means by which to freely access academic research that normally requires a subscription or purchase. Did you know its founder, Alexandra Elbakyan, is a philosophy graduate student?
