How to Make the Best out of Every Travel Experience

Traveling is the best thing ever. Exploring new cities, meeting new people from different cultures and enjoying the most beautiful and breathtaking places in the whole world. I think there’s no better way to relax. Unfortunately, life isn’t always a bed of roses so there might be a moment where you get homesick or you feel a bit down. The key is not to let this ruin your holiday, but to make the best out of your trip. In the meantime, make sure to always stay in touch with your friends and family. Don’t forget to recharge phone credit before you leave. We’ll give you 5 more tips, based on scientific research, to make the best out of every travel experience. Let’s go!

1. Short breaks do it better

Of course, the ultimate dream is to go on a world tour for at least one year – or longer. Nevertheless, research shows that this isn’t what truly makes you happy. Frequently smaller trips, like a one-week holiday on the coast of somewhere beautiful, contribute to your overall well-being more than a major, but less infrequent trip. This can be explained by the fact that the ultimate enjoyment of a human-being reaches its peak at about eight days. This means the ideal solution is to take short breaks more often. A win-win situation!

2. Do what makes you happy

This may sound obvious, but that doesn’t make it any less important. Researchers found that people are happiest when they’re relaxing, eating or socializing. So, that’s exactly what you should do on a holiday. Don’t cut costs on delicious food or a wellness massage, you deserve it. Just do whatever makes you happy and it’ll surely do you good.

3. Save the best for the last

It’s understood that we’re most likely to remember the things that happened most recently. This means that the end of a trip can be recalled more easily than the beginning of a trip. If you wish to come home filled with positive energy and free of care, make the best out of your final night. Drink champagne, order a five course meal and book a night in a beautiful luxury hotel. Make it unforgettable!

4. Back to normal life

All good things come to an end, and so does your trip… There is nothing more annoying than coming home on a Sunday evening and having to get back to work the next morning. In order to benefit from all the positive effects of your trip, you need to manage this transition. Try to hold on to that holiday feeling by planning some fun, relaxing things when you get back home.

5. Spread the word

Back home again, it’s time to shape your memories! The best way to do so, is to tell anyone who wants to listen, about how fantastic and enriching your trip was. Positive thoughts and a positive attitude create more happiness and success – so feel free to show your most beautiful pictures and tell the best anecdotes.

Here you are! Applying these tips will make sure you are able to get the best out of every travel experience. Happy holidays!

What to do with Travel Photos when you get Home

With this era of snap chats and selfies, going on holiday means that everything from tablets to phones come back fully loaded with photos. Unfortunately many of us leave those photos on there until the next time we need space to take more. Photos can be a great reminder of the best days of your life and should be kept safe and seen regularly. This is why just leaving them to languish on your hard drive is never the best option.

Here are 10 fabulous ways to display your photos so you can see them all the time;

1. Scrap book

This might be a little more work than using a photo album but it is fun. You can buy a scrap book from any store and stick all your printed photos there. The best thing about a scrap book is that you can tell a story with it. Unlike an album, you can capture the memories with words and arrange the pictures according to what happened that day.

2. Hang them on your wall

A great option these days is to get your favourites printed out on canvas to hang on your wall at home, or even in your office. It used to be quite expensive to print photos on canvas but technology has made it much cheaper, so don’t dismiss this potential winner. Some places even offer themed photo collage services, (eg – http://www.thecanvasfactory.com.au/photo-collage-ideas/) so you can get a travel themed collage on your wall.

3. A messy frame

Most of us put file a single picture per frame. However, holiday pictures can cover a lot of frames. Why don’t you have all pictures taken every single day printed together in one big page? When this is done beautifully and framed it, brings back the memories like it was yesterday. It is called a messy frame because the photos are not arranged systematically; they are just placed haphazardly on the page.

4. Gallery Wall

If you have a plain-looking wall especially a hallway, a corridor or staircase, place well-arranged photo frames on it. You will see them as you walk past and they will transform the appearance of the house. You can put your photos in frames or just stick them directly to the wall with bluetack. Place your pictures in a meaningful shapes such as hearts or diamonds. This works better in bedrooms.

You can also have many photos placed in one large foam core board on your wall. This makes your room look like a movie theatre. Because frames and collages can be expensive, Try sticking all your photos on a straight wire and have the kids help out.

You can also frame your best photos and place them on your hallway or lounge in a clock arrangement. You must chose only 12 photos for every hour and have real moving wall arms to make the idea not just decorative but functional as well.

5. Material look

There are many companies that will transform your best picture into coasters, throw pillows and even canvas prints. This will be memorable and functional too. If you have kids, use transparent jars to put in items they collected and their favorite picture.

6. Create a slide show

There are programs that enable one to take all their favourite pictures and put them as their screensaver in sliding mode. Instead of one boring picture on your screen, you will have all your holiday pictures sliding through all the time.

A little creativity and time is all you need to convert your holiday photos into impressive features you can see every day.

Check for a cheaper flight

Air travelling to the major Australian cities is way cheaper if you opt for budget-friendly airlines, such as Tiger Airways, Jetstar, and Virgin Blue. But, for those going on a regional travel, opt for Rex airline’s backpacker pass that gives travellers one or two months of unlimited air travel in Australia. However, Rex doen’t fly into the major cities, but it can take you to some of the most loved destinations in the country, such as Kangaroo Island, Broken Hill, and Coober Pedy.

Consider the following steps to further beat the high costs of airline travel:

Compare fares online before booking directly online.

To get cheap flights, choose to fly on Saturday afternoons, Sunday morning, and mid weekdays (Tuesdays and Wednesday).

Travel light with a hand-carry luggage than check-in baggage.

Airport trains are quick and convenient for lone travellers coming from Sydney and Brisbane, but it can be more convenient to hail a taxi in the city if you’re three or more people.

Get vaccinated

Prevention is better than cure. In a world where rare diseases are apparent everywhere (air, contact, water, etc.), the only way to ensure one’s health is by taking steps ahead of it. Travellers are advised by the World Health Organization to take extra precaution on their health as travelling exposes them to various health risks brought by significant changes in altitude, humidity, microbes and temperature. One of the most effective way to prepare your health will be getting the appropriate vaccinations by first visiting your friendly general practitioner. Some shots may come free of charge, but other specialiased vaccinations have extra charge. But, you cannot put a price on your health, so make sure to review the multiple health risks in the region you’re visiting to know the appropriate vaccination you will need.

Visit destinations with free passes

Not everything in Australia has a price, as some places offer free pass even to tourists. Those in search of cultural connection from this country, free museums and galleries in the city present permanent collection of Australia’s history. Note: Admission charges only apply when they are presenting special exhibitions.

In Sydney, one can check out Art Gallery of NSW, Museum of Comporary Art, and the Australian National Maritime Museum. Meanwhile, Brisbane also has some of the best collections that one can check out in Queensland Art Gallery, Queensland Museum, and Queensland Gallery of Modern Art.

Here are other free museums and gallery you can check out on your visit to Australia:

Canberra: National Gallery of Australia

Canberray: National Museum of Australia

Melbourne: National Gallery of Victoria International

Melbourne: Ian Potter Centre, Australian Art

There are also free wildlife experiences one can try in Australia, without the expense of paying big bucks for zoo admission. Consider the following destinations to see Australia’s native wildlife.

  • Tidal River campground in Wilsons Promontory National Park
  • Zumsteins in Grampians National Park
  • Bennetts Ridge campground in Blue Mountains National Park
  • Depot Beach campground in Murramurang National Park
  • Alligator Creek campground in Bowling Green Bay National Park

Although the Aussie dollar may continue to rise, some of Australia’s best travel experiences remain to be affordable. We hope this post has given you enough idea on how to beat the exchange rate by going on a shoestring budget to Australia.

Tips on Staying in Australia for Extended Periods

Going to Australia for business can be pricey, what more with a leisurely vacation? The sheer flight and the airfare alone encourage many visitors to stretch their visit for well over a week (it took me that long just to get over the jet lag.) So how can you afford to stay in Australia for a week or longer without burning through your pocket?

I’ll tell you this. It’s not as difficult as you think. Here are some ways to help you save money while staying in Australia:

Before you travel

Research comes first. Your biggest expense on your trip is probably the airfare. As you begin hunting down bargains, consider Virgin Australia, which started their service between the U.S. and Australia a few years back and in a recent search beat all other prices.

Time your travel. Travels between December and February are typically the most expensive, since it is summer during that time and people tend to flock the most popular places like Melbourne or Sydney. Flying during spring and fall tend to be cheaper.

While in Australia

LodgingLuxury-vacation-rental-Venus-bay-Luxury-cottage_4

Consider a vacation rental. If you’re travelling with friends or family, a vacation rental will save you a lot of money over a hotel stay. You will also have more space for less money, and you’ll also have a kitchen where you can cook your meals instead of eating out at a fancy (and pricey) restaurant.

Go camping. Australia is known to have some of the world’s most well-maintained and scenic caravan parks and campgrounds. Renting an RV can give you lots of freedom to drive yourself around the country, as well as an inexpensive and cozy space to sleep every night.

Consider staying for good. Sometimes you travel enough to a place that it becomes your next home, or sometimes you fall in love with the city you’re currently in. There are many apartments for sale in Australia if you’re looking for a permanent residence or even a place to call your own every time you visit the country.

TransportationFC_2_test,_surfers_paradise_boulevard,_March_2014

Take the bus or train. One of the most scenic and relaxing way to experience Australia is either by bus or train. If you are focusing your travel on a small region, then hopping on a bus or riding the train to your next destination is your cheapest option.

Think outside the tour. You won’t have to pay for a pricey cruise around Sydney’s harbour if you simply take the public ferry – you’ll save about 75% of the fee from cruise ship.

Free travels. Yes, they exist in Australia. Perth has a free service on trains and buses within a certain city zone while Brisbane offers free transit on several bus routes in the city center, these passes will save you money over individually priced tickets.

Saving on meals

Don’t overtip. Tipping isn’t typically required in Australia, though it’s growing more common in many restaurants. I personally tip a waiter/waitress when I’m pleased with the overall service.

Grocery Shopping. Buy food where locals do: at supermarkets instead of the pricey hotel breakfast.
