Wing
Commander (1999)
This film
would be totally unwatchable if it weren't amusing to
see Freddie Prinz Jr. and Matthew Lillard fight every
impulse in their bodies not to make mad, passionate
love. The sparks between them are so obvious and yet,
they are forced into this ridiculous film about machismo
and war.
The film is based on a video game and the plot is about
as original. Guys and gals fly around in spaceships
and shoot stuff. Then they pull into a space station
and make out. The females that the two male "actors"
couple up with are pretty masculine in their own right.
Lillard is teamed with an awesome black chick
and they make a great team. Too bad there in this piece
of crap.
In the end, the film is so bland, even the young stars
physiques don't make it worthwhile. The special effects
are lame, the action sequences look ridiculous, the
plot is unintelligible cliche-ridden tripe, the characters
laughable, the dialogue inane, and the acting sophomoric.
Truly one of the worst of 1999.
