I kinda saw this film by accident at the
2005 Austin Gay and Lesbian International Film
Festival. Well, not exactly by accident, but
it wasn't really something I thought I was going
to watch. It was on at 9:30 and I was already
at the theater from seeing "Summer
Storm" and decided to stay and watch it.
I thought this was going to be some fantasy
narrative feature about the making of a Colt
porn movie in the 70's but it turned out to
be a documentary about the making of a recent
Colt film called "BuclkeRoos." This is a gay
porn with a Western/Cowboy theme about a magical
belt buckle that allows the wearer to sleep
with anyone he desires. It sounds silly and
tacky but the actual film finds a gay married
couple who live on a ranch (played by porn superstars
Marcus Iron and Dean Phoenix) getting the buckle.
The climax of the film (pun intended) finds
them using it to sleep with each other solidifying
their monogamous relationship.
For the first third of the movie, of so,
I was completely bored. For you straight people,
Colt specializes in hunky, beefy, brawny gay
porn stars. I am not in to muscular beefy guys.
I like my boys wimpy, emaciated and very, very
gay! Not that these big beefy supposedly macho
men in the film aren't gay. In fact, if your
idea of hot is The Brawny Man talking like a
big, sissified girl, then this just may be the
movie for you.
And then, about a third of the way into
the film, my eyes practically fell to the floor.
There, on the screen, was the most beautiful
boy I have ever seen in my life. His name is
Sammy Case and he is a gay porn star and the
hottest little twink I have ever seen. Yes,
I've looked him up on-line and, yes, he is a
little whore who is only 20 and has already
been in a plethora of gay porn and, yes, he
is about as effeminate as Laura Ashley and I
don't give a fuck! You know, David Bowie made
me love little pasty white, pale, emaciated,
fey boys and for a long time I struggled with
that because, for some reason, I didn't want
to like little gay boys. I wanted little pasty
white, pale, emaciated, fey straight boys. Then
I met my last boyfriend Justin. And although
that relationship was a colossal disaster, at
least it made me realize that little effeminate
gay boys were cute and worth my attention. I
would walk to Nasa and lasso the moon with my
bare hands just to look Sammy Case in the eyes.
I don't care that he's probably a jaded, money-grubbing,
typical, girly gay twink. I am in love.
Another great thing also happened with
"eXposed:" It started becoming more about the
making of gay porn in general and less about
making "BuckleRoos" specifically. At first this
film seems like a day-by-day video diary of
the making of a Colt product. At first it seems
not interesting, not illuminating, not funny,
not sexy, and not even good enough for a DVD
extra. Then Sammy Case comes on the scene and
theres something extra to look at. Then the
film begins to be a deconstruction of gay porn
as the filmmaker, a woman who may or may not
be a lesbian named Mr. Pam, begins to talk to
the stars and crew and filmmakers and ask questions
about their lives and their jobs in the porn
industry. We learn a lot about the porn business
from these interviews and they are very illuminating.
And of course, for me, seeing Sammy Case talk
was just icing on the cake.
As the documentary evolves, we see that
this is more than just a typical porn shoot.
The actors and crew become family and the shoot
seems odd upon reflection because there is no
backbiting shown, no arguments, no in-fighting,
just a group of guys getting along trying to
make a porn film that has a little more story
than your usual adult gay product. When all
is said and done, the group is awarded 11 GayVN
Awards for their efforts.
Notes:
Also with John Rutherford (The DP), Jimmy
Douglas (the director and writer - a pretentious
git who is quite funny because he takes himself
so seriously), star Brad Benton (who is quite
funny), star Ricky Martinez (who can't keep
his enormous cock in his pants, star Zak Sprears
(who has a non- sexual role in the film), and
Dick C. Normous (the cute little, supposedly
straight crew guy who helps fluff actors by
showing his ass) and a bunch of others Colt
stars.
