Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle (2003)
I wrote a long and hyper-intense
review praising "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle"
and going on and on about how great it is and when
I was completely done, my computer crashed and I lost
all my review. I had made notes on my cell phone on
my voice memo feature with an extensive list of the
special appearances in the film and all the cool music
used in the notes of the review. Gone.
Now that my PC is up and running,
I'm simply too tired and to burnt out to be that hyper
about the film. I ran out of gas. But "Charlie's Angels:
Full Throttle" never runs out of gas. It keeps going
and going and going and rocks to the extreme. It's
fucking awesome.
This movie kicks ass. This is the
equivalent of a cartoon running on high octane. Sure,
the stunts are CGI'ed to the max and the action often
crosses way over unbelievable into completely crazy
but that's the joy of this movie. It goes over the
top at every moment. It's wild, crazy and campy fun.
The three main stars have a blast
doing it. They rock our sox off. Drew, Cameron and
Lucy have never looked hotter! And they amp up their
sex appeal to 11 here. This one goes to 11! It's so
much fun to see them having such a blast. The outtakes
reel in the film features a seemingly endless succession
of images of the stars laughing their asses of while
making the film. The fun is infectious.
If anyone doesn't think this film
full of kick-ass female characters and that the outrageous
girl power doesn't act as a catalyst for female empowerment,
they should go home and cook dinner for their hubby.
These girls rock! Unafraid to use their sexuality
and hot bodies to show how they rule, they become
grrrl-power icons here.
And talk about HOT! This film is
a "Maxim" magazine come to life. Dude, I'm a homo
and fucking Demi Moore in a bikini gave me wood like
a motherfucker. She looks hot as fuck. Talk about
Got MILF! And with Drew, Cameron and Lucy cranking
it up a notch, well, dude, you are going to cream
your boxer three or four times. Bring a fucking towel
dude! This film is a cinematic wet dream. And even
better (for me anyway) is Crispin Glover as a smoldering
sexual deviant, Matt LeBlanc as an adorable but goofy
charmer and Shia LaBeouf as a cutie in training. This
kid reminded me of why they are called teen heartTHROBS!
The film is an endless music video
cartoon so it's only appropriate that a music video
director helm the piece. McG returns from making the
first film in the "Angel's" series and proves himself
a force to be reckoned with. Look at how he uses music
here. It's awesome. He even takes standard movie tunes
like "Surfer Girl" by the Beach Boys and "Firestarter"
by Prodigy and "Who Are You" by the Who and makes
them seem fresh and new. But when he goes over the
top and uses the B-52's "Planet Claire," well, he
enters the realm of genius.
"Charlie's Angel's Full Throttle"
is the coolest summer flick to be seen yet this year.
Total popcorn movie. Total fun as fuck thrill ride
rollercoaster. Boner City - in every sense of the
word. Campy, crazy, over the top, out of control,
ride 'em cowboy fun! Just like I like my ladies!
Notes:
Also with Bernie Mac, Justin Theroux,
Bruce Willis, Janet DuBois, Robert Patrick, Luke Wilson,
John Cleese, Pink, Jacklyn Smith and the voice of
John Forsythe.
Several on-line sources say the
Olsen twins have a cameo but I didn't snap to it during
the film.
Barrymore is a producer as is Betty
Thomas.
Pop music also by Loverboy, Journey,
Andy Gibb, Tone-Loc, MC Hammer, Pink, Bon Jovi, J.
Giels Band, Electric Six, Natalie Cole, Donna Summer
and a slew of others. There's also a cover of Elton
John's "Saturday Nights Alright for Fighting."
With well-known songs like "The
Pink Panther Theme," the theme from "Born Free" and
"The Lonely Goatherd" from "the Sound of Music" also
being used.
Spoofs "Flashdance" and "Cape Fear."
Barrymore plays a wrestler in one
scene called Lady Insane where she wears make-up similar
to that worn by Bowie on his album cover for 1973's
"Aladdin Sane." She also wear an AC/DC t-shirt and
other shirts with heavy metal bands on them.
Bill Murray was replaced by Bernie
Mac in the role of Bosley reportedly because he argued
with Liu several times during the filming of the first
movie. Murray is said to be Mac's brother and his
photograph is shown.
The film was also known as "Charlie's
Angels 2" and "Charlie's Angel's: Halo" during production.
The first film was released in 2000.
The series began on ABC- TV back in 1976.
The trailer for the film used Prodigy
as well as The Knack's "My Sharona" which wasn't used
in the film.
