My friend Jerry Young in association with Main Street
Investment Group, opened the Main Street Cinema, in Clearwater,
Florida on November 24, 2000. The theatre is a 5 screen
complex that shows art, foreign, independent, classical
and selected first run movies.
Hollywood casting news:
FRANCES MCDORMAND will star opposite Robert De Niro
in "City by the Sea." Michael Caton-Jones will direct
the police drama.
DE NIRO, meanwhile, is in talks to star with Eddie
Murphy in the com-edy "Showtime," about a veteran cop
who must team with a showoff rookie for a TV series.
COURTNEY LOVE has signed to star in "Hello Suckers,"
a film biography of the Broadway actress, silent screen
star and nightclub singer Texas Guinan.
JENNIFER CONNELLY is in talks to portray Russell Crowe's
wife in director Ron Howard's "Beautiful Mind."
KELLY PRESTON will play a veteran flight attendant
opposite Gwyneth Paltrow in the (surprise) Miramax comedy
"A View From the Top."
SHANNON ELIZABETH is in talks to join the cast of
director Kevin
Smith's "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back."
JUDI DENCH will join Sarah Jessica Parker and Cuba
Gooding Jr. in lending her vocal talents to the Disney
animated Western musical "Sweating Bullets."
MEL GIBSON is in talks with Braveheart screenwriter
Randall Wallace to reteam on the Vietnam War drama "Lost
Patrol."
FOREST WHITAKER is in talks to join Colin Farrell
and director Joel Schumacher on "Phone Booth."
MIKE MYERS, who wont be doing "Sprockets," or "Scooby-Do,"
is in talks to stars as Inspector Jacques Clouseau in
the remake of "The Pink Panther." Ivan Reitman is in
talks to direct the new version of the film series.
Myers also recently dropped out of talks to star as
"Gong Show" host Chuck Barris in the film biopic "Confessions
of a Dangerous Mind."
HANK AZARIA is in talks to replace Robert Downey Jr.
in the role of Catherine Zeta-Jones' lover in the ensemble
comedy "America's Sweethearts" due on July 4th.
Meanwhile, Mr. Zeta Jones, MICHAEL DOUGLAS, is in
discussions to co-star with Billy Crystal in "Till Death
Do Us Part," a remake of the 1979 comedy "The In-Laws."
JON STEWART will play a ruthless network executive
who fires Robin Williams in the comedy "Death to Smoochie."
JESSE BRADFORD will star in "Clockstoppers," about
a teen-ager who stumbles upon an invention that can
make time stand still.
KRIS KRISTOFFERSON has joined the cast of Tim Burton's
"Planet of the Apes" remake. He wont require much make-up.
EDWARD FURLONG has signed to reprise his role as John
Connor opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in the upcoming
"Terminator 3."
JONATHAN DEMME will direct "The Truth About Charlie,"
a remake of the 1963 thriller "Charade" which starred
Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn. Mark Wahlberg and Thandie
Newton have signed to star in the film.
STEVE BRILL, helmer of "Little Nicky," is in negotiations
to direct Adam Sandler yet again in "Deeds," a rework-ing
of the Frank Capra-directed classic "Mr. Deeds Goes
to Town."
FRANCO ZEFFIRELLI will return to his native Italy to
direct the Renaissance drama "The Florentines," about
a daughter of the famed Medici family.
FOX is developing a big-screen version of the TV series
"Malcolm in the Middle," with Franke Muniz and other
major cast members set to star in the film.

Splice This! is an international festival of super8
film, they welcome new and old work by anyone and everyone.
All filmmakers will be notified of programming selections
by the end of May 2001. The festival is happening june
22-24 2001.
BOSTON - The Boston Society of Film Critics gave four
awards, including best picture, to Cameron Crowe's coming-of-age
film "Almost
Famous." The rock-themed picture also got Crowe the
director nod and a shared prize for screenplay with Steven
Kloves' script for "Wonder
Boys." Frances McDormand was named best supporting
actress for her roles in both films.
Ang Lee's artsy martial arts film, "Crouching
Tiger, Hidden Dragon," received two awards, one
for foreign-language film and the other for Peter Pau's
cinematography.
Ellen Burstyn was named best actress for her performance
of a woman strung out on diet pills in "Requiem
for a Dream." The surprise winner for best actor
was Colin Farrell for "Tigerland." "You Can Count On
Me" picked up an award for director Kenneth Lonergan,
who was cited as best new filmmaker.
Fred Willard was named best supporting actor for his
motormouth announcer in "Best in Show." The award for
best documentary went to Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato's
"The
Eyes of Tammy Faye," about the travails of televangelist
spouse Tammy Faye Bakker.
