SXSW
- Day 5, Tuesday, 3/14/2000
Well, this one will be short and sweet.
I worked all day at my "real" job so I didn't go to any
films until the evening. I wanted to see Kyle Henry's "University,
Inc." which was playing at the Dobie at 8pm, so I skipped
any 6 or 7 o'clock screening. Nothing looked desperately interesting
anyway. I wanted a sort of slow night. I am going to be off
work all day Thurs/Fri and Sat, so I plan on gorging myself
cinematically this weekend.
"University, Inc." is an amazing film. It's about UT closing
the film program down in the Student Union in 1997. But it's
much more than that as well. (Read
my review).
In Q&A, Henry told us the film has played at 12 schools
since last fall and there are 15 screenings planned in the
future.
The film will be showing again, ironically at the student
Union at UT on 4/6/2000. This is some sort of benefit, so
an admission may be charged. It is well worth it. It is also
playing at the Dallas video festival in a couple weeks. I
will try and find out more screenings coming up so that I
can pass them on to those who are not lucky enough to live
in Austin.
Tomorrow evening I hope to see a lot of stuff at the Alamo.
For some reason I thought "The Filth and the Fury" was on
Wednesday, but I see now it is on Thursday. Cool.
