AGLIFF
2002 - Austin Gay and Lesbian Film Festival - Day 5
I worked my day gig and still found time to see a sneak
of “Possession”
before heading to Agliff for two shows on Monday night.
I saw “Under
One Roof” on my own and truly loved it. Some guys
from AMP (Austin’s Men’s Project) and from AIDS Services
of Austin promoted their organizations before the film.
Johnny Oh! knows a little about AMP. I’ll have to remember
to ask him more about it. ASA is having a “Dine Out
for Charity” kinda thing in September (9 and 10th, I
think) and since Johnny and I eat out a lot (no, not
like that, silly) maybe that’s something we can do to
help out.

Speaking of JO! I got a call from him after he
saw “The M.O.
of M.I.” on Monday and he said he kinda liked it.
We have to talk.
J.K. had agreed to meet me at 9:30 for “Showboy,”
and since I got out of the first show a bit early, I
cruised over to Taco Cabana for a bite between shows.
|
When I was headed back, J.K. called me on
the cell. He was a bit early (a little unusual
for him). And we chatted while I drove into the
parking lot. We hung out in line and talked and
then went into the show. We held hands and cuddled
a bit but the movie was so dull, so we were antsy
all the way through. I told J.K. that I wanted
to stay for the Q&A. I usually do this on movies
I don’t like very much just to get a picture of
whoever is doing the Q&A but they stood right
behind us and we had to crane our heads all through
it and I couldn’t snap a pix. It was a Q&A as
elongated and as dull as the movie was.
Oh God! And the film was preceded by the horrible
short, “The Last Moment.” Now that I have officially
seen it at the festival, I can tell you it is
an overwrought and ridiculous melodrama about
an old queen who commits suicide (for no real
reason). The story is told as he fucks a hot little
Italian number named Gabriel (who turns out to
be the angel Gabriel, of course). There is also
a really stupid segment where a busload of drag
queens and fairies go to the beach and get high
and naked with young children. This abomination
is one of the biggest pieces of shit I have ever
seen. It suggests that all gay men are suicidal,
incapable of experiencing true love.

It also suggests that drag queens are only
happy on the outside. This film is just stupid
as fuck. Even J.K. hated it.
I am not seeing any movies on Tuesday and
I was hoping J.K. would come hang out at the house
and watch a movie or TV or snuggle or something
but he seemed to suggest he had other plans. Oh
well. (Okay, I’m really struggling through this).
I know he has other friends and other things in
his life. It is hard to accept yet it’s a part
of the package. Aren’t relationships (or whatever
it is we have) supposed to be about compromise
and understanding?
