AGLIFF
2002 - Austin Gay and Lesbian Film Festival - Day 4
I had to go back to my day job today, on about four
hours sleep, but it was an easy day and not too stressful.
J.K. called late in the day and we agreed to hook up at
8 for dinner. We were seeing "Days"
(or in Italian, "Giorni)" at 9:45. After work, I went
home and got some writing done and downloaded some pictures
from my digital camera. I took about a 15 minute nap.

What can I say about a night like tonight?
It was the most romantic evening I have spent
in over 10 years. It was the most romantic evening
I ever spent with J.K. I am, indeed, a lucky guy.
We went to dinner at the Chili's near the
Metropolitan theater. We had good drinks, good
food and good service. I thought J.K. might have
been a bit tired of me because we had seen so
much of each other last week, and I had been upset
with him a bit on Thursday, and he seemed down
on the phone the past couple days. But he was
vibrant and chipper and in a sweet, romantic mood.
Not only that, much to my delight, he paid for
dinner. I must be the only 39 year old guy in
the world dating a 22 year old who buys sometimes.
How could life get any better?

On the way to the car, outside Chili's, we held
hands and two frat looking boys walked by. I don't even
know if they noticed. Maybe they had just come from
an Agliff movie at the theater next door. To hold hands
with a boy I like in public is yet another dream come
true for me. I know I like to be the center of attention,
so maybe it is tied into that. Regardless, it was nice
and sweet.
We got to the theater and got situated pretty easily.
We took some pictures outside the theater with a few
people noticing. J.K. just put his arm around me and
ushered me in. It was awesome.
J.K. wears contacts and isn't much on subtitles
but we made it through the film easily. What was awesome
was that he reached out to hold my hand or snuggle with
me as often as I did with him. I can't say it was exactly
natural, since it has been so long since I shared affection
with a young man in a theater, but it was tender and
sweet and comforting. Being near him during the movie
made me feel so awesome.
Anyway, (Oh yeah, there's a film festival going
on) there was no Q&A and no big announcements. I saw
the cute young guy who worked the door the night before.
He handed out ballots at the end of the film. I saw
Bruce Weatherford and he asked if I had seen the shorts
earlier. He said they were quite good. My friend Johnny
Oh! also called and left me a voicemail saying he had
seen them and they were quite good. They were called
"Boys to Watch." Agliff has apparently programed some
really good shorts this year. Wish I could see more
of them.

On the way out, little cutie gave us a ballot
(he looked more like 18 than 16 tonight) and I
went to the men's room while J.K. filled his ballot
out. When I came out, the cutie guy who used to
be on Camarades was there by him. "Did you say
'hi?'" I asked. J.K. smiled and said no.
I took him home and we kissed gently and
passionately for a few minutes before he promised
he would see me on the next day. I have two films
planned for Monday night. Hopefully he will join
me for at least one. Maybe both.
A guy can dream. Sometimes, with J.K., his
dreams can come true.
