AGLIFF
2002 - Austin Gay and Lesbian Film Festival - Day 10
I saw three movies today at Agliff but, really,
in all, it was a rather uneventful day.
My friend Jan joined me for the afternoon TBA showing
of “Group.”
This was considered a “lesbian” film, so I invited a
lesbian! Actually, I’ve gone to some of the “girl films”
before at fests past and it can seem uncomfortable if
you are the only guy. There wasn’t too much of a crowd
for the film, which is a shame because it is awesome.
I think there were a couple other guys in there. Maybe
not.
“Group” is, basically, a therapy group comprised
of several women. Jan herself used to be a bit of a
therapist and the film, which is a mockumentary, angered
her a bit because the therapist in it was not very controlling
of the group. She allowed them to cuss at each other.
This should not be allowed, she said. She also said
it was sort of an Adalerian (or is that Adlerian) approach
to therapy. Anyway, after the movie we went to Taco
Cabana and chatted and caught up with one and other.
Jan’s partner, Mary, is a Hospice Nurse and since
J.K. is going to school to be a nurse, I think they
should meet. So, we are going to go to dinner together
sometime soon. J.K. is really struggling to figure out
what it is exactly that he wants to do with his life.
He took care of his dying grandfather when he was a
teen and this is how he became interested in nursing.
I have wavered on what to advise him because I think
he should make up his own mind. But the more I think
about it the more I think it is the perfect job for
him. He is such a warm and caring and compassionate
person. It’s really a field that would suit him, I think.
That’s why I want him to meet Mary. I think she would
be a good influence on him.
Melissa came and watched the last two movies of
the day with me. I was saying goodbye to Jan and hello
to Melissa but I had to go back to my car and get my
tickets. Melissa waited in line for me. By the time
I got back she already had a gaggle of 4 gay guys around
her. This girl is a gay-dick magnet! She introduced
them to me (she knows simply everyone who is a nobody
in town) and I joked that I was switching girls midstream
as I said goodbye to Jan.
Melissa and I saw two very nice films, “Mango
Soufflé” and “Fleeing
by Night” although she liked the latter one a bit
more than I. She cried and whimpered all through the
sorrowful scenes. It was so sweet. Not like me, I practically
blubbered during “Group;” it is such a powerful movie.
I only got teary eyed during “Fleeing.”
Between movies, we took some pictures outside the
theater. We also saw the Camarades boy and I told her
the whole story about Johnny Oh! talking to him the
day before. She thought that was sweet.
At the end of the night, cutie Volunteer boy was
again handing out ballots. He hasn’t been around so
much during the week; he must have school. I dropped
Melissa off at Mojos on the drag. Oh, and when I told
her about getting egged the night before, she told me
that she has been hit with a water balloon and an egg
while sitting in front of Mojos within the last couple
weeks. I guess it’s that time of year again when little
frat boys get little boners from pulling sophomoric
stunts. The good thing is this: Half of them will be
hanging out at the gay bars within the next two or three
years after they “find themselves.” Who knows? The little
frat boy that hit me with an egg last night may be pelting
my back with some other liquidy substance in a year
or two!
