Austin
Film Festival 2003 - Day 4 - October 12, 2003
I didn't have time to writer after I got up. I pretty
much got ready and headed to the Paramount for the 4:30
screening of "Elf."
At the theater, I sat towards the front but Ravkill, a
guy I used to talk to but who now hates me because I said
some of his friends were pretentious on the site here,
was sitting near where I usually like to sit. I didn't
want to deal with him, so I sat off to the side. I also
saw Cargill of "The Reel Deal," but he was busy talking
to other folks, so I didn't get to say hello.
Some younger guys were sitting behind me and they smelled like they had
been around a bonfire all morning. (You know, it didn't
smell bad, just smokey). One of them was talking about
his band and how either they or their new CD was going
to be called either Das Comment or Das Comet, I couldn't
tell which exactly.

Some bald guy from KLBJ got up and introduced
the film briefly.
After the film, I saw my friend Jan waiting
in line for the next film and stopped and said
hello. I asked her if she knew who from the film
"Mystic River" had been at the screening and she
said she wasn't sure. I had to get to the Alamo
for a 7pm screening of some early Andy Warhol
films, which was not a part of AFF. (I blew off
"The Girl with the Pearl Earring" and "Breakfast
with Hunter" to see them).
|
I walked to the Alamo and there was a short line.
I waited and saw an old friend of Melissa's named Troy
who I hadn't seen in ages. I told him about her getting
married and he was surprised to hear that. We chatted
for a bit and then the line inched a little closer to
the door. Johnny Oh! was supposed to meet me at 6:30
and he got there just as I got in the door. We went
upstairs and got in using the will-call tickets I had
ordered on-line.
| There
was a decent crowd for the screening but it wasn't
sold out. The Alamo is also showing Warhol's "Chelsea
Girls" and "Hedy" in upcoming weeks, so I'm looking
forward to that. A girl from the Austin Museum of
Art, where there is currently a Warhol exhibit going
on, got up and plugged the show and then an older
guy got up and gave a long winded introduction of
the films, mostly comprised of stuff I already knew.
(I will be writing about the Warhol films separately).
The films shown were "Inner and Outer Space," "Mario
Banana" (1 and 2), "Blowjob" (which I have seen
previously on video) and "Poor Little Rich Girl." |

While watching "Blowjob,"
Johnny made a hilarious comment by suggesting that we
should do a remake of the film called "Blumper." I about
blew ice tea through my nose.
After the films, which ran almost 3 hours, Johnny
and I split into out separate cars and headed home.
My car had been acting up and I asked Johnny to follow
me for a bit and, sure enough, before we got to the
freeway, mine broke down. I called AAA and it only took
them 25 minutes or so to get a tow-truck there, which
was amazing. But the driver was a dumb ass and he kept
messing with my car, instead of just hooking it up and
headed where I wanted him to take it, and it was almost
midnight before Johnny and I got back to my place. Sheesh.
