Austin Film Festival 2000

Films

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon - Believe the hype!

Venus Beauty Institute - The story and the characters will easily work their way into your heart.

Songcatcher - This is not a film nor the type of film that I might normally see but afforded the opportunity, I'm glad I did.

A Man Is Mostly Water - Is mostly innocuous frivolity.

Polyp & Corbin Take Over - One of the most boring, slapdash, amateurish and downright masturbatory pieces of crud to ever see the light of day.

The Yards - buying into this set of pretty contrived circumstances is the only way were going to follow this film as it slithers it way through it's pretty obvious story.

Up Syndrome - It's a truly remarkable love letter to a friend we have here.

State and Main - Is full of the writer's witty dialogue and wry commentary, but it generally fails to hit the mark.

Billy Elliot - Does exactly what you think it will do. But the playing out of this wonderful and inspiring story is the real joy of it.

cicadas - Moves through the all too familiar terrain of a modern dysfuctional family managing to never step into the pitfalls of such a genre.

AFF Shorts - Rejected,Allred Fishburns in Love,Waking Mele , Genesis and Catastrophy, The Closet, f-stop, Me and My Old Man,Boundaries, Hot Broads.

Black Milk - What's a Greek phrase that means "jumbled mess?" Whatever it is, that's what we have here.

Shadow of the Vampire - Was, perhaps at one time, an awesome three hour movie. Cut down to under two hours, it's "very good" at best.

Ten Hundred Kings - Static, tense, and almost unflinching, "Ten Hundred Kings," is a poignant rumination on loss and loneliness.

Butcher's 15 - a witty, cheeky delight.

ABCD - This is a deeply layered, multi-textured piece that continually weaves a meaningful theme which, although easy to follow, is quite complex.

The Poor and Hungry - Cut out the beginning and end of this excessively elongated film, and somehow come up with a better, more artistic, more concise ending, you'd have a masterpiece.

Rave - It's obvious within the first five minutes of the film that the entire movie is going to be a piece of shit.

Rock Opera - Loud, bold, vulgar and fast!

Radio Free Steve - There has to be a more clear line between the back story and the back back story. Whew - now I'm confused.
